A picture in Discover Magazine of the variety of orchids inspired this work, though my model came from a set of orchid pictures on Malaysian stamps. Orchids are so flamboyant, and that quality was what I wanted here. The shiny grey background was from a piece of satin of which I somehow have over six yards, but no idea where that came from; for a change, that background was the starting point for this picture! |
