The palm tree, although the most prominent element, was the last major addition to the design of this picture.
The rocks, the vegetation, the water and sky fitted themselves together and told me
they belonged together -- but something was missing, no focus presented itself. The picture
sat for a month or more, until this brown and white material caught my eye, and suggested a
trunk of a palm tree, and some ferns from another piece of cloth grew into fronds. And it
had to stand out from the background, just had to! And with that coming forward, the near
part of the water also needed to come forward, and some polyfil fluff adding to the clouds
helped to provide distance for the sky.
