Description
I started this piece with the thought of making something like the Flow of Flowers that used fabric scraps from Belize, but they spoke to me much differently this time! I focused on the contrast between the flowing, calming lines of the turquoise fabrics and the jagged repetitive pattern of the yellow-green, and a tentative title of “Calm and Tension”, with the calm parts on the left, the tension on the right, and a vertical orientation. The piece was nearly finished when I showed it to my husband Curt, and found him looking at it as a landscape, holding it horizontally. And amazingly, that worked much better, so it became Sky Flowers.
The outer set of beads are functional, holding the yellow gauzy background onto the foam core backing, then I added more to fill in where they were needed. The final step was using some Tsukineko© ink mixed with water for a subtle gradation of yellow to green at the edges.
