History of Fiber Art

Collage of a bookshelf

Handcrafting beautiful works of art is not new to humanity. However, as technology continues to progress, the way in which we create does, too! The creative process looks different for everyone, which is part of what makes art so special!

Past Fiber Art

Fiber art has been around for centuries, however the type as we know it has more modern roots. Most art historians agree that fiber art came into its own post World War Two. The 70’s also had quite an effect on fiber art, which is sometimes noted as an “intentional revolution”. Many artists began combining different patterns, styles, and techniques to create multidimensional pieces.

Present Fiber Art

Fiber Art is still a thriving medium! There are different communities and groups that come together to connect, inspire, and work with each other! Many groups even do different challenges– where one person picks a theme and others follow it.

My Fiber Art

I have been crafting collages and sewing for years. From my first pieces to now, my creative process has evolved.

One thing I fully believe is that art can come from anywhere and anyone can be artistic. To view some of my pieces, from knitted items, to collages, browse my website. If you have any questions about a piece, you can give me a call at 508-395-2370.
