I am finally creating again! Most of the fabrics used in Cats and Fish came from a bag of scraps which were too small to make more COVID-19 masks, which tells you much of what I have done this past year. This piece began and finished in March of 2021. While I am still making masks for as long as they are needed, I have begun to free myself to resume my art.
The pieces with the cats was almost the last addition to the scene. The various green pieces and the pond were all remnants from clothing that I made, except for the background trees part which was a contribution from mask production. The two browns for the foreground came out of my general stash. The last addition were the clouds and the fish, which are made of Angelina fiber, an amazing material which starts out looking like colored Easter basket filling, and when ironed, fuses into a glistening, shimmering thin layer. The fish hadn’t been in my original plan, but was a suggestion from my husband — who originally wanted me to name this piece “Dinner”!
This piece is going to my youngest niece, Nic Konikow, as a gift.
