This summer one topic that some of the Framingham Artists Guild members played with was a beach scene with the sandy path leading down to the ocean, and I opted to create it in fabrics. I created the sky pattern with a marbling print technique, and used commercial prints for the rocks and the ocean waves. The sand is fabric manipulated so its folds give the effect of the ripples that the tide creates.
A scattering of “pebble” beads with a bit of overpainted stitching adds to the sandy surface, and some bits of wood-grained fabric and ropes of fabric paint indicate the path itself.
This piece now hangs on the wall of my son’s new home!
